Our Mission
Worldwide 1.3 billion people do not have access to secure power.
We are working now in several off-grid areas in Uganda using smart portable batteries on a Pay As You Go basis. POPO aims to serve the 20 million Ugandans at the bottom of the economic pyramid, meeting their basic daily needs for electricity. POPO’s smart batteries are the only affordable solution. The Government’s strategy recognises that these needs cannot be met by the present mini-grid or solar home solutions.
VAC Solar has the distribution rights for UK technology that allows innovative smart batteries to be charged in Community Solar Hubs, which are then distributed in the surrounding communities to ensure 24/7 secure access to clean energy. Customers pay a rental fee per battery pack per day, payments by mobile money are encouraged. Monitoring in real time happens via a cloud system.
Under the Brand name “POPO, bringing power to you”, we provide Portable Power in communities in partnership with UHD Ltd, a leading Ugandan distributor of consumer products.
